HOPESTRONG
On July 3rd, 2012 Matthew James Koehler passed away after a brief battle with Kidney Cancer. He was 32 years old. He left behind a wife, Laura, brothers Brian and Kevin, parents Don and Cathy, and many friends who were all made better by having known him.
This concert will serve as a memorial to Matt, and also to honor all those that have passed away from, are struggling with, or have survived cancer. In their honor, we will be collecting money to donate to two cancer research organizations: the Dana Farber Cancer Research Institute, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. There will be a suggested donation of $20 per seat at the concert to be split evenly, and representatives from each organization will be present to collect further donations.
Matt attended Mt. Sinai High School on Long Island, and their choir will be joining us. Approximatley 35 singers will be traveling up to Albany on the day of the concert. Albany Pro Musica will be joining us as well to perform one of the choral masterworks: Fauré's Requiem. A full orchestra from Albany High School will join us, as well as professional soloists Woody Bynum and Carla Fisk.
The first half of the concert will feature sets of music from each ensemble, which will include a wide range of incredible music. During the intermission, please take some time to go outside the recital hall and view the memorials for Matt and the display to honor all those living and deceased who have suffered from cancer. To have a family member or friend honored, please follow the link at the bottom of this page and submit the required information via e-mail along with a picture (jpeg please) to [email protected]. These will be projected in a digital format on a screen outside of the recital hall. Also, go speak with representatives from Dana Farber and LLS to learn more about how you can support their research efforts.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or to let us know if you would like to help with this event. You're support is so very much appreciated.
Thank You,
The Albany High School Music Department
